California Governor Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, faces a boisterous recall effort from disgruntled citizens. While the effort existed prior to the coronavirus crisis, it picked up steam following outrage over coronavirus, lockdowns, and Newsom s own ill-advised trip to a swanky Napa Valley restaurant while his constituents endured pandemic restrictions.
It s common for California governors to face recall threats, but it s rare for one to actually lose his or her job in a recall election. Only Democrat Gray Davis was ousted, in 2003, and was ultimately replaced by the Terminator himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

A decades-long issue for the residents of Southern California, raw sewage from Mexico continues to flow north of the border.
The issue has been exacerbated by recent storms over the San Diego and Tijuana regions, with millions of gallons of toxic water a lot of which is sourced from the Tijuana River shuttering beaches as far as Coronado and polluting air and water.
While Mexico has long planned to help to resolve the issue, making repairs to fast-growing Tijuana s outdated sewage infrastructure last year and planning to fix additional issues, Border Report said Tuesday that the sewage has continued.
More than a half million Americans gain health insurance coverage under Biden
Biden campaigned on a strategy of building on the Obama-era health law to push the United States toward coverage for all. Author: RICARDO ALONSO-ZALDIVAR Associated Press Published: 11:59 AM EDT April 7, 2021 Updated: 11:59 AM EDT April 7, 2021
WASHINGTON More than a half million Americans have taken advantage of the Biden administration s special health insurance sign-up window keyed to the COVID-19 pandemic, the government announced Wednesday in anticipation that even more consumers will gain coverage in the coming months.
The reason officials expect sign-ups to keep growing is that millions of people became eligible effective Apr. 1 for pumped-up subsidies toward their premiums under President Joe Biden s coronavirus relief legislation. The special sign-up opportunity for Affordable Care Act plans will be available until Aug. 15.
