Oscars 2021: Why Oscar-nominated Crip Camp co-director s Gucci suit is momentous

James LeBrecht, co-director of Oscar nominated documentary, Crip Camp: A Disability Revolution wowed on the red carpet at this year s Academy Awards. Instead of wearing a usual black tux, he wore a custom-made navy-blue Gucci ensemble with a black and ivory flower print shift.
While it is expected for Oscar nominees to walk the red carpet in a custom suit, this is unique for LeBrecht. Not only was Crip Camp: A disability Revolution made on a small budget leaving little room for expensive red-carpet looks, but LeBrecht also has spina bifida and is reliant on a wheelchair to get around.

China native Chloe Zhao was named best director at the Oscars on Sunday in a historic win that made her the first Asian woman and only the second woman ever to take home the trophy.
Youn Yuh-jung won the best supporting actress Oscar for her role as a cantankerous grandmother in immigrant tale Minari.
Youn, 73, was the first South Korean actor or actress to win an Oscar in what was shaping up to be a milestone night for people of color, as well as a return to glamour and in-person celebrations after a year of virtual ceremonies.
The
93rd Academy Awards aired live on ABC on Sunday evening, rewarding the best achievements in cinema from the past year, and what a strange year it was. Although the coronavirus pandemic certainly made the year in film much less exciting, mostly because movie theaters were closed for a large chunk of it, there were still plenty of phenomenal films that deserved our attention.
