When
Parasite swept the 2020 Academy Awards, few of us thought it would be one of the last big events in the US that year. But as COVID-19 spread, movie theaters shut down, film festivals were cancelled, and blockbusters landed on streaming services. And it’s not over; just look at the Zoom Golden Globes and this weekend’s scaled-down, masked-up Grammys.
In a bid to host a somewhat normal awards ceremony, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences pushed this year’s Oscars from Feb. 28 to April 25, and will split the event between two locations in Los Angeles: Union Station and the Dolby Theatre. As Variety reports, though, the only people who can attend are the nominees, their guests, and the presenters. Sorry, Hollywood types, you’ll have to watch from the couch in your sweatpants like the rest of us.

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas
Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas put a graceful show as they announced Oscars nominations 2021 on Monday. While the power couple maintained their poise and were elegant hosts of the virtual event, they did had a little fun behind the scenes. In a set of new pictures shared by Priyanka and Nick on Instagram, the duo can be seen having fun with a giant Oscar trophy. In the hilarious picture, the couple can be seen stealing the Oscars . While Priyanka strikes a shush pose placing a finger on her lips, Nick is spotted looking carefully behind him to spot any onlookers.  One way or the other.Congratulations to all the nominees. And thank you @theacademy for the opportunity. @gregwilliamsphotography you fit right into our manic Monday. Thank you for the pictures, Priyanka captioned the post.Â

On Monday morning, two women were nominated for Oscars in directing, and it rained.
And perhaps someday, one of those things will not be news. (Rain in Los Angeles will always be news.)
But that “someday” is not this day. The inclusion of both Chloé Zhao and Emerald Fennell in the 2020 directing (and writing) categories represents just one set of breakthroughs on a nomination list so chock full of historic firsts “Minari’s” Steven Yeun, first Asian American lead actor nominee, meet “Sound of Metal’s” Riz Ahmed, first Muslim lead actor nominee that “most historic first” could be its own Oscar category.
