Wharton Center roars back for a fully packed season

We need each other.
The performers on the stage know that singing, dancing and playing their instruments in front of a computer or camera in their bedroom can only go so far. They need a living and breathing audience in front of them to feel alive.
And we need the performers. We need to be transported to emotional places that are new and exciting. We need to be thrilled, to cry, and to be stunned with beauty – and we need to experience that with lots of other people. Over the past year we have desperately missed the people on stage and we’ve missed the people that sit around us.

THE good news this week is that the BBC has committed to running a proper Proms season from July through to September. So hurrah for that: a glimmer of normality on the horizon.
More immediately though, we face a second silent Easter without the great choral spectacles that people turn to at this time of year. But thanks to period performance practice and the pared-downed forces it encourages, thereâs actually more happening than youâd expect â albeit online. And my main recommendation for the Easter weekend is a (relatively big) Bach St John Passion livestreamed free at 7pm Good Friday from the Berwaldhallen, Stockholm.
