Guwahati: Union Home Minister Amit Shah reached Guwahati Friday night as part of three- day visit to Assam & Manipur. Home Minister Amit Shah will formally launch the ruling saffron party s campaign for the 2021 Assam assembly polls on Saturday.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, State s Finance, Health and, Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, BJP National Vice-President and Assam BJP in-charge Baijayant Jay Panda, state party President Ranjit Kumar Dass received Amit Shah at the airport.
Assam schools to resume regular classes from Jan 1

A detailed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) in this regard is expected soon from the education department.
The Assam government on Monday announced that starting January 1, all state run schools will function in a regular way doing away with Covid-related restrictions imposed as of now.

Guwahati: Assam will be India’s first state where Indian civilisation irrespective of religion would be taught after the closing down of hundreds of government run madrassas and Sanskrit tols (schools), state Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said Monday.
He said that the Assam cabinet in its meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Sunday approved the proposal to close down all government-run madrassas and Sanskrit tols (schools), and a bill in this regard would be moved during the winter session of the state Assembly beginning from December 28.
“All the 683 government-run madrassas would be converted into the general schools and 97 Sanskrit tols would be handed over to Kumar Bhaskarvarma Sanskrit University. Guwahati (Assam) [India], December 14 (ANI): A day after Assam Cabinet decided that madrasas will operate as any other general educational institute, Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday stated that the decision was taken to make education secular . As many as 198 high madrasas and 542 other madrasas in Assam will operate as any other general educational institute and will not give admission to students for theological studies, he explained.
Sarma also clarified that schools will open on January 1, 2021, and wearing masks and maintaining social distancing will be mandatory. (ANI)
