Through a competitive process, 40 applicants representing 49 institutions were selected for the awards, a news release said. Reskilling grants will allow Texas public colleges, technical schools, and universities to provide financial assistance to Texas students to cover tuition and fees. The grants are designed to support displaced Texas workers who need to reskill or upskill to get back into the workforce, and to support students who have previously stopped out of higher education complete a postsecondary credential. The program is supported by a portion of the $175 million allocation to the THECB from the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief Fund.

Pennsylvania Department of Education Announces $500,000 to Support Equity in Higher Education 12/18/2020 Harrisburg, PA - Continuing to help students with remote learning during the pandemic, the state Department of Education (PDE), through the Office of Commonwealth Libraries (OCL), today announced $500,000 in funding to support affordability and equity in higher education. These funds will be offered through a new Open Educational Resources Grant Program (OER) funded by the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief Fund (GEER) established by the CARES Act of 2020. The program is designed to support student success and increase equitable, affordable access to higher education by decreasing student course-related costs and increasing opportunities to successfully complete educational requirements through high-quality virtual and distance learning, through encouraging the ongoing practice of adopting open or zero-cost course materials.
