Henderson man, his brother, die in boating accident

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — A weekend boating accident in South Carolina’s portion of the Intercoastal Waterway claimed the life of a Henderson man and his younger brother, authorities in that state say. Ahykeem Jones, 28, of Henderson and Johnnie Magbie, 19, of Supply, North Carolina, drowned on Sunday near the Pelican Bay landing, which is across the water from North Myrtle Beach and Atlantic Beach. Divers from the S.C. Department of Natural Resources recovered their bodies Monday. Department spokesman David Lucas said the brothers and other family members were on a rental pontoon boat when one of the men fell in the water.

The Horry County Coroner’s Office said the incident happened around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday at the Ocean Reef Resort near 71st Avenue North. Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard said five-year-old Shane Chester was rushed to Grand Strand Medical Center after being taken out of the pool but died less than an hour later.

(WMBF) – A fifth person has died after a car crashed into a pond last weekend in Myrtle Beach, according to officials. Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard identified the victim as 19-year-old Jamar Matthews from Lake City. Willard said Matthews died at Grand Strand Medical Center from injuries he sustained in the crash. Authorities said the wreck happened around 1:30 a.m. Jan. 23 on Harrelson Boulevard, just west of Highway 15.
