Putnam County Government: Putnam In The Pandemic Recording COVID-19 Stories

Reply June 1, 2021 The Putnam County Historian s Office is seeking the public s help to chronicle the extraordinary conditions we have lived through during the COVID-19 pandemic. Residents are asked to think back on the past year when they may have experienced COVID-19 testing, quarantine, school closings, and shortages in the stores.  Can you tell a story about how the pandemic affected your job or business? Did you experience sicknesses or, under the most tragic circumstances, lose a loved one to COVID-19?  Everyone s story is vitally important. Subscribe An online form has been created on the Historian s website for contributions of personal stories, photographs, or images of artifacts that reflect the individual s response to this crisis. Contributions will help document 2020-2021 and be considered for inclusion in the Historian s Collection at the Putnam County Archives.

Putnam County Executive s Statement on legalization of marijuana in New York State Written by Putnam County, Office of County Executive Prev April 13, 2021 New York State is about to adopt a record $212 billion budget and use the legalization of marijuana as one of the new sources of tax revenue to close its budget gap. “This is a cash grab by NYS at the expense of the health and safety of our communities,” Putnam County Executive MaryEllen Odell said. “I understand that the state wants to generate a new source of revenue because of past mismanagement of the NYS budget, but at what price? The average person will look at the legalization of marijuana and say ‘This does not impact me.’ But it is naïve to think that use among our young people will not increase. Will our roads be safer? It’s like your parents always told you, ‘Just because your friends are doing it, doesn’t make it right.’”
