CORNWALL, Ontario – At a Special Meeting on Monday, March 8 Cornwall City Council received a report on what a new arts and culture could look like, how much it would cost, and how it might operate.
In 2018 the City of Cornwall purchased the old Bank of Montreal at 159 Pitt St. for $450,000 with the intention of turning it into an arts and culture centre.
A feasibility study done by the City of Cornwall that summer estimated that renovating the building to meet the needs of an arts centre would cost between $4 million and $6 million.
Leduc face coverings bylaw remains in place for now By Al Stafford Bylaw was discussed by city council Monday, but no decisions made
The Face Coverings Bylaw passed by the city of Leduc last fall remains in place for the moment. Although, the bylaw isn t really in effect.
The issue came up for discussion at Monday night s city council meeting. Mayor Bob Young suggested the bylaw be rescinded. He pointed out the bylaw is redundant at the moment because all municipalities are governed by restrictions imposed by the province before Christmas. I think it s a good idea that we are following provincial guidelines, said Councillor Glen Finstad. As the mayor mentioned, it would be redundant for Leduc to have one that may or may not conflict with what the province has going.

“This is the first Zoom budget meeting I’ve ever gone through and I hope I never go through another one,” said Councillor Glen Grant. “I think the residents will accept this budget, and if they don’t they can call us and we will explain to the best of our abilities.”

CORNWALL, Ontario – City of Cornwall staff have begun replacing the nearly 5,000 seats in the Ed Lumley Arena a the Cornwall Civic Complex.
Most of the seats had been in the arena since it was built in 1976, with Parks and Recreation General Manager Jamie Fawthrop telling Cornwall City Council in Feb. 2020 that the cushioning in the seats had literally been reduced to dust, leaving some patrons sitting directly on the metal springs in the seating pan.
