Vermilion Parish Getting Federal Flood Mitigation Money

Three parishes and two governmental entities will be getting federal grant money to help with flood mitigation after last year s hurricane season according to a press release. Acadiana Congressman Clay Higgins says that the Federal Emergency Management Agency has awarded more than $22 million dollars for recovery from last year s storms. Vermilion Parish will be receiving around $2.3 million dollars will be used to buy two properties and elevate eleven others. Higgins says that around $3.8 million dollars will be going to a cost-sharing program for the Jeff Davis Electric Co-op. The money is being designated after the federal government agreed to pick up 90% of the cost for power restoration.
