We are short staffed, the message reads. Please be patient with the staff that did show up. No one wants to work anymore. On the restaurant s website, a pop-up informs visitors that it is now hiring servers and bartenders and links to an online application. Businesses across the country have reported struggling to fill open positions as the nation comes out of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many blame the Biden Administration s extension of the Lost Wages Extension program, which pays unemployed workers an additional $300 per week in benefits.

Local Congressman shows support for Israel

May 14, 2021 Congressman Bryan Steil of Janesville indicates support for Israel in its current rocket battle with the Hamas militant group operating out of Palestinian controlled territory. Steil says the terrorist attacks on Israel are occurring with the backing of Iran and supporting Israel may prevent the need for broader U.S. military involvement in the middle east. The Republican says the U.S. has budgeted close to $4 billion next year in security systems for Israel.

Waterford High student to have artwork displayed in U S Capitol for a year

Journal Times news services U.S. Rep. Bryan Steil, R-Wis., announced Ella Hunter as the 2021 Artistic Discovery Contest winner. Ella’s artwork titled “Blue” will be displayed in the United States Capitol for one year. Ella is a sophomore at Waterford High School and resides in Waterford. “Congratulations to Ella for winning this year’s Artistic Discovery Contest. ‘Blue’ will proudly hang in the halls of the United States Capitol. Each year, I am impressed by the artistic abilities of high school students across Southeast Wisconsin. Ella’s passion for art and artistic talents are evident in her painting which took nearly three weeks to complete. Thank you to our Artistic Discovery Contest judges, Ella, and all students who submitted artwork,” Steil said in a statement. Saturday’s ceremony took place at Gateway Technical College’s Burlington campus. Sixteen high school students submitted artwork for the 2021 contest.
