WNY venues, theaters receive over $23M in federal relief aid

BUFFALO, N.Y. After a pandemic that kept them shut down for over a year, venues and theaters across Western New York have received federal aid.
According to data obtained from the SBA website, 28 venues and theaters received $23,934,736 from the Shuttered Venues Operators Grant.
The big winner in Western New York was Shea s Performing Arts Center, which received $10 million from the federal grant program. According to information from the SBA, $10 million was the maximum grant a venue could receive.

Arts grants funded through American Rescue Plan now available

BUFFALO, N.Y. More than $135 million is being made available to arts organizations across the country as part of the American Rescue Plan.
The grants are facilitated by the National Endowment of the Arts, and according to Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26), 60 percent of the funding will go towards arts and cultural organizations, and local art agencies. Meanwhile, the other 40 percent will be provided to state, jurisdictional, and regional arts organizations.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) â Following Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown s loss to India Walton in Tuesday s Democratic primary for Mayor of Buffalo, the Brown campaign says a potential write-in campaign is under serious consideration.
While Brown has yet to concede, Walton secured 11,132 votes (51.9%) across the city s nine districts to Brown s 9,625 votes (44.8%). Le Candice Durham captured 650 votes.
If Walton wins the general election in November, she would become the first female mayor in City of Buffalo history. Walton sat down with 7 Eyewitness News Wednesday to discuss her plans for the City of Buffalo, which she says includes raising taxes up to one percent.
