The Action Network, commonly referred to as VECAN, describes itself as “the network of over 100 Vermont town energy committees and the organizations that support them.” The groups and network work on energy efficiency, greenhouse gas reduction and production of in-state renewable energy. Democratic Congressman Peter Welch met recently with Vermont Young Professionals – a networking group for younger business owners. Welch updated the group on federal moves in Washington to address the pandemic and the work to roll out vaccines.  “The good news is there is a vaccine. The challenging news is we’ve got to start delivering it. And the challenging news is that there’s a spike, it’s cold weather and it’s a friendly environment for the spread of the virus.”

State awards over $2 9 million in Community Development Grants

Fri, 12/11/2020 - 9:27am tim Vermont Business Magazine Governor Phil Scott and the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) has announced over $2.9 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) awards to 10 communities in seven different counties and $243,853 in CDBG CARES Act funding (CDBG-CV) awards to eight communities throughout the state. DHCD awards approximately $7 million annually in competitive grants to Vermont cities and towns. The grants are funded through the federal CDBG program, administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Funding is targeted to address the needs of lower income Vermonters and represents a true partnership between the federal, state and local government.
