President-elect Joe Biden’s allies have begun an ambitious campaign to raise millions of dollars from corporations and individuals by offering special “VIP participation” in reimagined inaugural festivities that will be largely virtual because of the coronavirus pandemic. );

Far fewer tickets than normal are being distributed for people to attend the actual swearing-in ceremony outside the Capitol on Jan 20, which is organised and funded by the government.

Stay away. That s the message from the congressional committee organizing inauguration ceremonies for President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.
A day after Biden s own organizing committee announced that the swearing-in would take place on January 20 outside the Capitol Building, the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies announced that permitted attendance at the event will be drastically reduced due to COVID-19 precautions.
Instead of the usual 2,00,000 tickets distributed to members of Congress and passed out to their constituents, organizers will allow just over 1,000 tickets - one for each of the 535 members of Congress and one guest each.

Biden has officially secured the presidency after the 55 votes from California s electors put him above the 270-threshold needed to win. Electoral College members cast their ballots on Monday.

US Vice-President Mike Pence will receive the COVID-19 vaccine on Friday in a public event, the White House has announced, with a transition official saying president-elect Joe Biden will follow and receive the shot as soon as next week.
Meanwhile, the coronavirus pandemic has meant January s inauguration ceremony will be limited from the usual 200,000-plus crowd down to a crowd resembling the State of the Union.
