MALIBU The city of Malibu is inviting all community members to participate in Wildfire Community Preparedness Day on Saturday, May 1. The national campaign encourages individuals and organizations to come together on a single day to take action to raise awareness and reduce wildfire risks. During the pandemic, the 2021’s Wildfire Community Preparedness Day is focused on what residents can do on and around their home to help protect against the threat of wildfires.

Fairfield, California – (Friday, April 23, 2021) – With the upcoming fire season upon us, Fairfield Fire Prevention Bureau, in coordination with the National Fire Protection Association, want everyone to participate in the Wildfire Community Preparedness Day on May 1. This is a national campaign that encourages people and organizations everywhere to come together on a single day to take action to raise awareness and reduce wildfire risks!
Wildfire Community Preparedness Day is held in the United States and Canada on the first Saturday in May. Given that in-person gatherings are limited or on-hold in many places, this year’s Prep Day is focused on what residents can do on and around their home to help protect against the threat of wildfires. Research shows there are proven methods for preparing properties for withstanding the devastating impacts of a wildfire.
National Fire Protection Association, State Farm Funding Wildfire Preparedness February 4, 2021
The National Fire Protection Association and State Farm have kicked off a funding awards application period for the eighth national Wildfire Community Preparedness Day on Saturday, May 1, which helps communities prepare for, and reduce, their risk of wildfire damage.
State Farm is providing funding to NFPA for the event and a portion will be awarded to 150 neighborhood wildfire risk reduction projects being implemented on May 1.
Preparedness people a chance to plan and participate in a risk reduction or wildfire preparedness activity. Communities, nonprofits, local firefighter groups, and individuals are all encouraged to submit an application with their ideas for reducing the threat of wildfires in their areas.

Applications are being taken through February 26 for grant applications aimed at helping fire departments and individuals help communities become wildfire ready as part of the 8th annual Wildfire Community Preparedness Day on May 1. Last year, more than 58,000 fires burned 10 million acres across the United States. Wildfires can cost the U.S. up to an estimated $285 billion per year in losses.
Financial support from State Farm will once again enable the NFPA to provide 150 applicants with $500 awards to complete a wildfire risk reduction project.
