The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) says the nationwide revenue mobilisation exercise it began yesterday is not a mass disconnection exercise to recover the debt owed by customers.

The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has assured the public that it is working with the relevant players in the power generation and distribution chain to resume power transmission to all areas experiencing power outage.
This follows power outage experienced in parts of the country yesterday due to technical challenges.
A statement released by the company said the power system experienced a fault on the Aboadze-Anwomaso transmission line, leading to the loss of supply to some parts of the country.
It said the technical team immediately initiated restoration efforts and was able to fix the transmission network within 30 minutes.

The Bui Power Authority (BPA) says the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) misinformed the Minister of Energy and Ghanaians, when it said the Bui Power Plant had been shut down due to low level of water and hence the intermittent power supply in the central part of Ghana and especially in Kumasi.
Following the intermittent power supply in recent weeks, GRIDCo at a press briefing on the issue on April 1, 2021 said the Bui Power Plant had been shut down because of low water in the dam and therefore all the power the country needed was being generated from the coast, Tema and Takoradi.
The Ranking Member of the Mines and Energy Committee of Parliament, Mr John Abdulai Jinapor, has said the current intermittent power outages in the country popularly known as dumsor, is due to financial challenges and not because of technical challenges as being claimed by state transmitter Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) and some government officials.
“This is because the transmission lines and transformers are congested due to underinvestment and lack of regular maintenance resulting from the poor financial health of the energy sector State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs),” Mr Jinapor said in a statement.
According to him, most of the energy sector SOEs have continued to witness worsening financial positions since the assumption of office by President Nana Akufo-Addo despite his administration receiving over GHS12 billion in Energy Sector Levy Act (ESLA) revenues and almost GHS20 billion in petroleum revenues over the past four years.
