Government’s free water supply to Ghanaians ends by December 31, 2020 29th Dec 2020    |    Source: GBCGhana Online The Ghana Water Company Limited says it will end the free water supply for Ghanaians by 31st December 2020 which was part of effort to curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. In a statement signed by the Public Relations Manager of Company, Stanley Mantey indicated that the payment of the water bills will now be the responsibility of customers. The Company assured the public that its meter reading officers and officials will have the company ID and also adhere to all the safety protocols before entering their premises to discharge their duties.

Water consumption increased by 80% with free policy – GWCL

File photo: Government in the month of April announced free water for all Ghanaians Water production by the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has increased by 80% since the government instituted the free water policy. The Head of Communications at the GWCL, Stanley Martey, who revealed this on Onua TV’s Maakye, said consumption of water by Ghanaians has also increased proportionally within the period. Government in the month of April announced free water for all Ghanaians due to the outbreak of the coronavirus. The eight-month free water policy is expected to end on Thursday, December 31, 2020, if the government does not renew the policy with the GWCL.

CWSA engages 1,200 new staff at the water systems

Siabi has announced the engagement of 1,200 new employees by the agency to augment its activities. The 1,200 newly employed, have been deployed countrywide to help in the delivery of quality water in its operational communities and towns to contribute towards the government’s agenda of job creation and also to fulfill the United Nations Sustainable Development goal six (6) of which Ghana is a signatory. Mr Siabi announced this during a meeting with the network of partners in the water sector to strategise towards a more vibrant sanitation and water sector at CWSA conference room on December 22, 2020.
