The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has given the assurance it will comply with all government directives to control the spread of new infections of the deadly COVID-19.
Alhaji Nasiru Yussif, the Bono East Regional Secretary to the GPRTU, emphasized the union would ensure that Veronica Buckets with water and soaps, hand sanitizers and nose masks and face shields were provided at all lorry stations and bus terminals in the country.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Techiman, Alhaji Yussif indicated the union had resolved to re-enforce health safety protocols saying all travellers would be forced to wash their hands and wear their nose masks before they boarded vehicles.
Work begins on multi-storey car park to decongest Kumasi CBD
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has reinforced its determination to decongest the Central Business District (CBD), one of West Africa’s busiest commercial areas, to ease vehicular and traffic congestion. An average of about 1.5 million people, including traders from neighbouring Togo, Burkina Faso and Cote d’Ivoire, Niger, Mali and other countries in the sub-Region throng the CBD for varied commercial activities almost every week. Mr Osei Assibey-Antwi, the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Kumasi, on the sidelines of a handing-over ceremony for work to commence on a multi-storey car park, said the Assembly was currently reviewing the on-street parking initiative introduced some few years ago.

The Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) of TUC has rolled out safety measures in aimed at reducing accidents ahead of this year’s Christmas celebrations.
The measures among other things are to sensitize drivers to be vigilant and also deist from overloading, wrongful overtaking, over speeding, drinking alcohol before driving as well as engaging in unnecessary conversations with passengers and refusal to observe mandatory rest period.
The Regional Vice Chairman, MR. Sumaila Yaw Boakye who disclosed this to the media in Kumasi on Friday December 18, 2020 said the secretariat was holding workshops to sensitize drivers to be vigilant during the yuletide.
