CHCC, mayor s office to conduct village premise inspections | News

THE Commonwealth Healthcare Corp.-Environmental Health Disease Prevention, in collaboration with the Saipan Mayorâs office, will conduct premise inspections in the villages. CHCC said the inspection is in line with the mayorâs routine village beautification program to address improper trash or garbage disposal that contributes to litter and vector harborage in the communities. Harborage is anything that attracts or provides shelter for vectors: âAny insect or other arthropod, rodent or other animal capable of harboring or transmitting causative agents of human disease, or capable of causing human discomfort and injury.â CHCC noted that the mayorâs office staff frequently observed trash scattered on the streets or sidewalks during their routine village cleanup.

Governor allots $122 5M in Rescue Plan funds for NMI government operations

The federal law allows the CNMI government to spend the monies in two fiscal years. In his budget submission on April 1, the governor provided the Legislature a spreadsheet of the governmentâs FY 2022 spending measure. From local revenue, the governor identifies $98.8 million available for CNMI government appropriation, although Finance Secretary David DLG Atalig and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Donald Manglona are hoping to increase the amount to $105 million by tapping more American Rescue Plan Act funds. The governor, for his part, said $32.4 million in ARPA funds will fund the salaries of 2,152 CNMI government personnel. He also urged the Marianas Visitors Authority to use its share of ARPA funds in âswiftly moving forward with planning for the resumption of activities aside from promotion and marketing of the Marianas as a tourist destination, but to include or create outdoor events for our community affected by this pandemic [for] over a year now.â

CHCC announces BIBA grading of inspected food establishments

(CHCC) âÂ In March, the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp.- Environmental Health Disease Prevention conducted sanitary inspections at retail, eating and drinking establishments. CHCC-EHDP also launched inspections for the BIBA Healthy Restaurant Program last month.Â CHCC, in partnership with the CNMI Nutrition Council, manages the Biba Healthy Restaurant Program. The program aims to increase the availability of clearly marked, nutritious food at local restaurants. The programâs mission is to make the healthy choice the easy choice at CNMI restaurants. Nutrition guidelines have been developed for restaurants and caterers to ensure healthy choices are available for CNMI families when eating outside the home.
