Electronic pull-tabs have been a surprisingly successful stream of revenue for the state budget and Minnesota charities in recent years, but a group of lawmakers is warning that could all come to a screeching halt. Republicans say more than 400 charities across the state and nearly 1,500 local bars and eateries that host those games will suffer a devastating hit if a proposed revamping of the e-tab games becomes law.

JA: I started my foundation after I came home from a USO tour in 2009.  I had a buddy who was in the army and he had told me about the gap in adaptive housing for our wounded vets when they came home.  Growing up around military vets, my grandpa always taught us to respect our vets because they are the reason we get to chase our dreams.

Families enjoy playing game to raise money in Niskayuna | The Daily Gazette SECTIONS Shares0 NISKAYUNA – Wind and colder than normal temperatures didn’t stop a couple dozen people from dabbing bingo cards with markers at River Road Park Saturday afternoon as part of an event to raise money for two organizations.  Instead, they bundled up in coats and blankets and hoped for the caller to pick the right balls for them. Laura D’Arpino said she felt “pretty good” after winning the first game. She had shown up with a couple of friends from school and their parents to support The Warrior Project. She won a small $5 gift card. The big prize of the day was a personal protective equipment basket that included a mask and hand sanitizer. 

Wounded Warriors Collier County opens second house for homeless veterans

Life has been tough for Kenneth Talbot, but years of bad luck and being in the wrong place at the wrong time may be behind him. Talbot, who turns 71 next month, is the first of three residents of new long-term supportive housing in Naples, called Bravo House, for older veterans who are homeless. “I spent a lot of time on the streets,” Talbot said, sitting in the living room of the three-bedroom, two-bath residence at 1139 Sperling Ave. between Goodlette-Frank Road and U.S. 41 in Naples. “But the good Lord has been taking care of me.” The nonprofit Wounded Warriors of Collier County opened the house this week as part of a three-year initiative to provide housing for homeless veterans of all ages.

Wounded Warriors of Collier County are opening Bravo House in Naples about a year after Alpha House opened. While Alpha House stirred up some controversy in a nearby neighborhood in 2020, Bravo House is being met with warmer welcome. With the additional location, most people we spoke to say they think it’s a great idea. They say everyone needs a place to live and are looking forward to meeting their new neighbors.
