Pharmacy chain owner sent for trial accused of deception to obtain payments from HSE scheme

THE owner of a chain of pharmacies has been sent forward for trial accused of deception to obtain payments from the HSE’s Primary Care Reimbursement Service (PCRS). The scheme is responsible for making payments to healthcare professionals, like GPs, dentists and pharmacists, for free or reduced costs services they provide to the public. John Corr (55), of Vergemount Hall, Clonskeagh, Dublin 6, was charged earlier with 30 counts of deception at a number of chemist shops in 2016. The offences are under the Theft and Fraud Act. The pharmacist appeared again at Dublin District Court today to have the prosecution’s book of evidence served on him. Evidence on a USB memory stick was also furnished to the defendant.

A court has struck out the case against a father-of-two who was accused of fraud over a €60,000 road accident injury claim. Constantin Iosca (40) had been charged after a failed High Court claim he made over a 2016 accident in which he said an untraceable car knocked him off his bicycle. He had been facing trial, but Judge Flann Brennan struck the fraud case out today after Dublin District Court heard a book of evidence was not ready. Mr Iosca, with an address at Scholar s Walk, Lusk, Co Dublin, had sued the Motor Insurer’s Bureau of Ireland (MIBI) but his claim was withdrawn in January this year and the matter was referred to the gardai and he was subsequently charged.

Gardaí get €500,000 tech and recruits to combat cybercrime

AN GARDA SÍOCHÁNA will attack cybercrime in the new year with a massive investment in state-of-the-art technology and additional staff dedicated to the fight. A decryption suite, which cost an estimated €500,000, will be at the forefront of the campaign and will hugely reduce the amount of time spent by technical experts on cracking locked devices. The suite is almost ready for use by the Garda s National Cybercrime Bureau, which has been boosted by the recruitment of an additional 59 officers. The officers were taken on after an internal competition and they will fill vacancies at detective ranks ranging from garda up to inspector.
