The Garda National Protective Services Bureau has formally established Organised Prostitution Investigation Unit, to police all aspects of organised criminality within the sex trade, including the enforcement of legislation criminalising the purchase of sexual services.
The Organised Prostitution Investigation Unit, formally known as and operating as Operation Quest is attached to the Garda National Protective Services Bureau, under Assistant Commissioner, Organised and Serious Crime based at Harcourt Square. The establishment of this specialised unit reinforces An Garda Síochána’s commitment to protecting vulnerable persons, including victims of human trafficking involved in prostitution in Ireland, a Garda Press statement read.

A NEW GARDA vice unit set up to target organised prostitution has brought an additional 71 charges against an Egyptian man charged with running brothels in Dublin.
Unemployed father-of-three, Hani Ali Showky, 44, with an address at Abbot Court, Cualanor, Dun Laoghaire, was remanded in custody today pending the preparation of a book of evidence by prosecutors.
Showky, who came to Ireland as an asylum seeker, allegedly used false letters from a bank, Revenue, and a tech firm, as supporting documents to take out leases on properties for the purpose
GARDAÍ have set up a specialist unit to target organised criminals involved in Ireland’s multi-million euro sex-trade.
The move is aimed at “protecting vulnerable persons, including victims of human trafficking involved in prostitution in Ireland.”
“This will be achieved by, tackling crime gangs involved in organisation of prostitution, by targeting the demand for prostitution and by safeguarding those persons trafficked for sexual exploitation,” a garda spokesperson said.
The unit have already been involved in targeting the vice trade including one case before the courts involving a 44-year-old male and a 26-year-old female.
They are charged with multiple offences including brothel keeping, money laundering and fraud related offences in the greater Dublin area.

Gardaí say a man and a woman are currently before the courts charged with multiple offences in relation to Organised Prostitution, Brothel Keeping, Money Laundering and Fraud related offences in the greater Dublin area.
The unit has been actively targeting organised prostitution and brothel keeping, and the Garda National Protective Services Bureau has also been investigating attacks on people in the sex trade.

Gardai have set up a new unit actively targeting organised prostitution and brothel keeping.
The Organised Prostitution Investigation Unit will police all aspects of organised criminality within the sex trade, including the enforcement of legislation criminalising the purchase of sexual services.
Two persons currently before the courts, a 44-year old man and a 26-year old woman, charged with multiple offences in relation to organised prostitution, brothel keeping, money laundering and fraud-related offences in the greater Dublin area, have been identified as examples of this unit s specialised investigations.
