Neste, Mitsui Chemicals and Toyota Tsusho join forces on renewable plastics production

Neste Corp. (Espoo, Finland), Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. (Tokyo) and Toyota Tsusho Corp. announced that they are joining forces to enable Japan’s first industrial-scale production of renewable plastics and chemicals from 100% bio-based hydrocarbons.
In this collaboration, Mitsui Chemicals will use Neste RE 100% bio-based hydrocarbons produced by Neste, to replace a part of the fossil feedstock in the production of a variety of plastics and chemicals at its crackers within Osaka Works during 2021. In doing so, Mitsui Chemicals will become Japan’s first company to use bio-based feedstock in its crackers. The collaboration between Neste, Mitsui Chemicals and Toyota Tsusho will enable brand owners and other potential clients in the Asian market, particularly in Japan, to start incorporating renewable plastics and chemicals into their products and offerings.

MALMO, SWEDEN: Perstorp said it launched a dipropylheptyl phthalate (DPHP) designed general-purpose plasticizer - Emoltene(tm) 100 Pro - to pioneer in the PVC market. The new plasticizer is partly based on renewable raw material using a traceable mass balance concept and is formulated with recycled raw materials, reducing the carbon dioxide emission throughout the value chain.
Facilitating uncomplicated adoption by users, Emoltene 100 Pro is ready to be dropped straight into existing flexible PVC formulations.

Eastman and SAP to pilot blockchain platform for recycled material traceability

Eastman Chemical Co. (Kingsport, Tenn.) is collaborating with SAP to pilot the GreenToken by SAP technology to enable traceability of certified recycled content across the value chain using blockchain technology.
The Eastman and SAP collaboration will leverage the blockchain-based platform of GreenToken to provide visibility through the value chain of sustainable products, such as the specialty plastics produced with Eastman’s molecular recycling technologies. Through data transparency enabled by blockchain, the platform is designed to give brands and consumers traceable information of sustainable attributes of products, including their percentage of certified recycled content.
