Battery maker eyes expansion--China Economic Net

Chinese electric vehicle (EV) battery producer Envision AESC is looking to accelerate its expansion in Europe with an eye on growing its global market share while planning ahead for an anticipated boom in sales of new energy vehicles.   Following plans announced in late June to build a $2.4 billion battery plant to supply French carmaker Renault in northern France, the Shanghai-based company declared in July it would make another investment of 423 million pounds ($576 million) to build a gigafactory at the Sunderland manufacturing site in the United Kingdom.   This would be part of a 1 billion pound flagship EV hub project with carmaker Nissan, a move to further expand its presence in Europe, as the continent ramps up production to achieve battery independence and embrace the EV boom.

Wind Energy Installation Breaks Records In Pandemic Year 2020

Premium Content Wind Energy Installation Breaks Records In Pandemic Year 2020 By Tsvetana Paraskova - Mar 16, 2021, 5:00 PM CDT The pandemic didn’t deter booming wind power capacity additions last year when global installations surged to record levels, driven by China and the United States. The phase-out of China’s onshore wind Feed-in-Tariff scheme as of 2021, as well as the anticipated expiration of U.S. federal tax incentives, played a major role in the soaring installations of wind power generation last year. Analysts had largely expected an increase in wind capacity installations due to the change in policy incentives in major markets. Yet, the volume of additions in China, the United States, and globally exceeded even the most optimistic projections, signaling that the wind power industry shook off the COVID-19 shock in early 2020 and took full advantage of government policies to support renewable energy.

Undeterred by the pandemic, the wind market grew by leaps and bounds in 2020; global commissioning of wind turbines was up 59% to nearly 100 gigawatts of new build last year. The industry was shaken up as leading players jostled for position.
