iPolitics By Davis Legree. Published on Dec 21, 2020 12:28pm Toronto traffic (Andrew Francis Wallace/Toronto Star) The Lead The federal government has outlined new rules for its Clean Fuels Standard (CFS). The CFS seeks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by curtailing the amount of carbon in fuels that is burned for powering cars and heating homes. The CFS is an integral element of the government’s strategy to meet its Paris climate agreement commitments. These rules include a requirement for Canadian producers and distributors to reduce their carbon emissions by 2.6 per cent by 2022 and by 13 per cent by 2030. “As the world moves to a cleaner economy, countries and businesses around the world are making a major shift to cleaner and non-emitting fuels,” Environment Canada spokesperson Moira Kelly said in an email to Canadian Press.

Millions Forced to Migrate because of Climate Change, Numbers to Treble by 2050

Millions Forced to Migrate because of Climate Change, Numbers to Treble by 2050 Climate Change caused 14 million people in India to migrate in 2020 Over 62 million people in South Asia will be forced to migrate from their homes due to climate change-fueled disasters by 2050 a three-fold increase from current displacement figures unless countries act now to mitigate effects of climate change, stated a report released by Climate Action Network South Asia (CANSA) and ActionAid International. “South Asia is already experiencing some of the highest fatalities due to extreme weather conditions. Future projections see South Asia as an ‘epicentre’ of deadly heatwaves, chronic droughts, rising sea levels, and intensified cyclones,” Harjeet Singh, global climate lead at ActionAid told The Citizen. “The severity of such climate related hazards is either directly displacing people or pushing them to migrate at any cost,” Singh said.
