Islamabad: The climate change ministry has prepared a mega project to plant one million trees on both sides of 50 kilometer long Ghazi Barotha Canal under Ten Billion Tree Tsunami Project initiated by Prime Minister Imran Khan.
According to the official data provided by the ministry, the project has also been discussed and approved by both the federal ministry for water resources and the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) and it would be completed in next three years. “The climate change ministry presented details of the project to the Wapda and the ministry of water resources and after holding few sessions both of them gave their nod for this mega project,” the data said. It said the ministry would provide the financial resources and expertise to execute this project and it would also involve the local community to ensure survival of these plants. Islamabad: The Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) has opened a new trail in the Margalla Hills.
The measure has been taken to tempt the adventurous souls of Islamabad, particularly, hikers, youth and the foreign nationals to enjoy fauna and flora of the city’s suburbs and discover the undiscovered paths in the Margalla Hills.
The new Trail 2 is 2km long, starts from the Japan Park in Sector F-6 and ends at Daman-e-Koh View Point.
All along its route, there are shady trees, stony paths, bushes and shrubs.
With this latest addition in trails, Islamabad has now got five fully managed and well-kept trails along the Margalla Road.
ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam on Wednesday inaugurated the newly-rehabilitated Trail 2 for hikers during a small ceremony.
“It’s a hike that looks good in pictures and even better once you’re actually here,” Mr Aslam said as he cut the ribbon and announced the trail open for hikers.
A group of enthusiasts and environmentalists joined Mr Aslam on a 40-minute hike that started from Islamabad Zoo on a route that connected with Trail 2. The temperature was perfect with foliage bursting with a sea of colours, glorified in the spring sun as hikers got a dose of fresh air.
