Critical injuries: Multiple crashes in Bay of Plenty and South Waikato

Multiple crashes have been reported in the Bay of Plenty and South Waikato this morning.
One person has critical injuries after a crash between a car and logging truck on State Highway 1, Lichfield.
A section of the highway has been closed and railway lines were blocked.
A police spokeswoman said the crash, between Baldwin and Scriveners Rds, was reported at 10.02am.

The morning of December 10, 1936 began much like any other Thursday for the young Princess Elizabeth – with a swimming lesson.
After her class at the Bath Club on Dover St, she came home to 145 Piccadilly, the stone-fronted house that looked across to Green Park and beyond to Buckingham Palace, where the Yorks (as they were then) lived.

Mahia diver died while collecting food for tangi

The diver whose body was found off the coast of Mahia on Monday morning was diving to collect food for an uncle s tangi, a relative says.
The deceased man was believed to be a Wairoa local in his mid-20s, who leaves behind a partner from Mahia, and two children.
Boaties assisting with the search found the diver about 9am on Monday, a police spokesperson said.
A relative of the diver s partner said the man was diving in the western side of Mahia.
