Calling all Climate Champions
A PILOT Climate Change Community Action Grants program is being set up by Mornington Peninsula Shire to help it achieve net zero emissions by 2040.
“Reaching that target is a huge challenge and we cannot achieve it alone,” the shire said last week.
“We need our community to work with us to foster behaviour change, share knowledge and reduce carbon emissions across the peninsula.”
The pilot Climate Change Community Action Grants program will fund not-for-profit community groups, charities, schools, business associations, social enterprises and small businesses working on innovative projects that help the shire reach its climate emergency goals.

DESPITE being one of the Mornington Peninsula’s premier sporting clubs the Hastings Football Netball Club is doing it tough.
The club, formed in 1897 as Hastings Football Club and playing in the Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League, says it cannot afford to maintain its grounds which are in a “poor state” in wet weather and provide suitable change rooms for all its teams – especially in a COVID-19-affected environment.

After a six-month stint in Monbulk, pop-up restaurant Enter Via Laundry is laying foundations at a second semi-permanent home. Avani Winery on the Mornington Peninsula will play host to chef-founder Helly Raichura and her regional Indian degustations for two months, starting in August.
Raichura is excited to cook at Avani, founded in Red Hill by winemaker Sashi Singh. Sashi and I share many similarities in our story, she says. We both come from India and migrated to Australia. We both changed our careers and found passion in food and wine later in our lives. We both at some point have been young mums trying to make a difference in the Australian food scene while raising a family.
Victorians freed from lockdown on Wednesday can spend the weekend soaking their stress away in geothermal pools three hours drive from Melbourne.
Deep Blue Hot Springs in Warrnambool, 257.8km southwest of the state capital, is a sanctuary of wellness filled with 15 natural mineral baths, waterfalls and aromatherapy pools that promise to wash your worries away.
Guests can reap the health benefits of the ground water sourced from a formation 850 metres below the surface while swimming through a network of sensory caves that are connected to Victoria s first-ever hot springs hotel.
Much like its more famous neighbour, the Mornington Peninsula Hot Springs, Deep Blue is surrounded by walking and cycling trails as well as some of the Great Ocean Road s best beaches, including Warrnambool s main beach and Middle Island.
