“I couldn’t have done it without the help of my teammates and the technical bench and I thank them for that. I have been working hard in training and the results have been visible on the pitch.
“Now I need to work harder because I have set the bar high and I need to maintain it.”
Tusker’s head coach Robert Matano said Meja is a good player and if he wants more awards, he will have to improve even further.
“I am happy for him because he has worked hard for it, but I don’t want it to get into his head and relax,” Matano said. “He got the award because he performed and for him to get another award, he needs to continue performing. He is a good boy and a good player.
Despite some lively play and a plethora of chances, the match ended in a goalless draw.
The two teams came into this fixture boasting a rich vein of form. Gor, under new coach Carlos Manuel Vaz Pinto, had won the last two matches, while AFC Leopards, under interim coach Anthony Kimani, were on a three-match winning run.
However, neither of the two teams appeared to have a cutting edge on the day.
Should Ingwe celebrate the draw?
A point for the 13-time league champions after five years without beating their rivals should come as good news for
Ingwe and their fans.
Mathare United’s first chance in the first half came in the 22nd minute when Daniel Otieno attempted a close-range effort but Humphrey Katasi did well to parry away the ferocious shot.
Nzoia’s head coach Ibrahim Shikanda made a change in the 49th minute when he introduced Ian Simiyu for Phillip Muchuma in order to add a sharper cutting edge for the striking department.
Despite the change, the Millers conceded in the 55th minute when Kinyanjui headed past Katasi after connecting to a cross delivered by Tyson Otieno. Three minutes later, Klinsman Omulanga was yellow carded as Salim Ali made a change by introducing John Mwangi for Danson Kago.
But I am happy the way the team played, especially in the first half. We also controlled the second half but did not create clear chances like we did in the first one. I am also happy with our defensive organization. When I came, this was the main problem of the team, but we managed to keep a clean sheet. I don t remember our opponents creating a clear scoring opportunity; I am happy to have at least solved it.
The tactician hinted he might not sign more players especially after the arrival of former skipper Haron Shakava, Burkinabe midfielder Abdul Karim Nikiema Zoko and Brazilian forward Wilson Silva Fonseca.
