Homeschool Week at the Calvert Marine Museum, March 15, to March 19 | Southern Maryland News Net

February 25, 2021 The Calvert Marine Museum (CMM) is a wonderful classroom away from home for homeschool families. This year, in lieu of its annual Homeschool Day event, CMM is extending programs to last an entire week! During the week of March 15 – 19, students can discover paleontology, marine biology, and maritime history in a unique and educational way. Participants can choose one of the self-guided tour kits and a scavenger hunt to begin their museum adventure: HERstory: Celebrating Southern Maryland Women Kit – Celebrate the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution through this fun, hands-on exploration of the Calvert Marine Museum HERStory exhibit. This exciting new program shines a light on some of the pioneering women from Maryland’s history. Participants will identify fossils like paleontologist Dr. Susan Kidwell, tie knots like boat captain Edie Taylor, and get up close with sting rays like Dr. Eugenie Clark.

January 25, 2021 SOLOMONS, MD – January 22, 2021 – Enjoy museum events and activities in a variety of ways during the month of February. Whether you’re joining us for story time in the Harms Gallery or participating in a free public virtual lecture, there’s something for everyone this month at the Calvert Marine Museum. Following the guidance of the CDC and State of Maryland, all guests ages five and older must wear a mask during their visit. The museum continues to operate at a limited capacity with a timed entry system. Before visiting CMM, please make a reservation on our website:   Thursdays, February 4 & February 11 – Sea Squirts – This program invites children 18 months to 3 years, with an adult, to discover the museum together through music, stories, and special activities. Join us for story time and a carryout craft, available while supplies last. Sessions are 15-20 minutes. Capacity is limited to 10 people per session. This month’s theme is

Calvert County Government Announces Martin Luther King Jr Day Schedule | Southern Maryland News Net

January 18, 2021 The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners announces county offices will be closed on Monday, January 18, 2021, in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr., Day. The Appeal Solid Waste Facility, which includes the landfill and transfer station, and all county customer convenience centers will be open with normal operating hours. The Solomons Septage Receiving Facility will be open on Monday, Jan. 18 with normal operating hours. The Water & Sewerage billing and customer service office be closed on Monday, Jan. 18. Meals on Wheels will be delivered on Tuesday, Jan. 19. There will be no county bus service on Monday, Jan. 18. Regular service will resume on Tuesday, Jan. 19.
