SPRINGFIELD Baystate Health has launched its partnership with for-profit Kindred Health Services with the opening of a temporary 12-bed child-and-adolescent behavioral health unit as the two continue plans for their $55 million, 150-bed psychiatric hospital,
The temporary unit restores inpatient pediatric psychiatric services to Western Massachusetts. Mercy Medical Center, part of Trinity Health Of New England, closed Providence Behavioral Hospital in June. The hospital had a 24-bed pediatric psychiatric unit that was the only one in the region.

HOLYOKE Holyoke Medical Center is on course to open 34 new inpatient psychiatric beds by May, but has asked the state to “put on hold” its plans announced last year for an 84-bed behavioral health hospital on its campus.
“We were supposed to have a final determination-of-need hearing with the state this week, but we asked instead for the state to put a hold on the project,” said Spiros Hatiras, president and chief executive officer of the medical center and Valley Health Systems.

Kindred Healthcare, LLC announced the appointment of multiple presidents for various divisions across the organization Monday.
Effective immediately, Jason Zachariah will serve as president of Kindred Healthcare, Russ Bailey will serve as president of Kindred Rehabilitation Services (KRS), and Mike Warrington will serve as president of the Hospital Division.
