Lucknow: 8,500 health workers to get Covid jab in 2nd round By IANS|   Published: 19th January 2021 4:05 pm IST The exercise will be carried in 85 booths at 32 centres in Lucknow. According to the district immunization officer Dr. M.K. Singh. “The third and fourth rounds will be held on January 28 and January 29 in which 8,500 health workers will be vaccinated in each session.” Around 840 beneficiaries, out of 1,200 enlisted for vaccination on January 16, had reported to get their first dose. Those absent on the first day will also get a second chance on Friday. Every beneficiary will be given two shots of vaccine in a gap of 28 days for full immunity. Over 51,000 health care workers are being vaccinated in the first phase, while frontline workers like police and civic personnel will be given shots in the second phase followed by elderly and those with comorbidities.

UP joins Covid vaccination marathon, inoculates 31k health workers

Uttar Pradesh on Satruday joined the Covid vaccination marathon by inoculating nearly 21,000 health workers and doctors, including more than 800 in Lucknow, on Day One of the mega pan India drive. A total of 317 vaccination centres were set up across the 75 districts of UP, according to health minister Jai Pratap Singh here. More than a million Covaxin and Covishield doses had already arrived in the state thus far. The immunisation drive started soon after the address to the nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi this morning. In Lucknow, 12 vaccination centres comprised King George’s Medical University (KGMU), Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS), Balrampur Hospital, Veerangana Avantibai Hospital, Era’s Medical College, Sahara Hospital, Medanta Hospital and TS Mishra Medical College, apart from two community health centres on the city outskirts.

Amar Bahadur, a junior assistant at the King George’s Medical University (KGMU), which is among the largest medical varsities in Asia, felt a sense of pride at being the first recipient of the Covid-19 vaccine at the KGMU Centre this morning. KGMU is among the 12 vaccination centres set up in Lucknow to inoculate 1,200 health workers, including doctors, on Saturday, Day One of the mega drive. “I felt no fear or nervousness about the vaccine. The vaccination will drive away the fear of Covid-19 among the people…it will definitely subdue the pandemic,” Bahadur said after coming out of the post-vaccination observation chamber at the KGMU. He also flaunted the Covid-19 vaccination card that mentioned the second dose would be administered to him on February 15, 2021.

Crucial move LUCKNOW: Gene sequencing for the new strain of Covid-19 virus will now start in Uttar Pradesh labs also. Earlier, the samples were sent to designated labs in New Delhi or Pune. The labs in UP starting gene sequencing are King George’s Medical University, Central Drug Research Institute and Indian Institute of Toxicology Research in Lucknow and Institute of Medical Sciences Banaras Hindu University, in Varanasi. CDRI and IITR come under CSIR. Additional chief secretary medical education, Dr Rajneesh Dube said on Thursday, “The gene sequencing facility has been started on the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Gene sequencing is crucial for tracking the new strain of Covid-19 virus and controlling its spread. The facility will lessen the time in determining the mutant strain so that surveillance and control activities are launched on time.”
