As I listen to Tennessee-based Chris third release I get flashes of Talking Heads and Kings Of Leon being melded into a cleaner, slower machine lauding the majesty of God. Melodic songs with an edge that cuts like a blade of long grass; you don t realise you ve even been cut at first but then you notice the songs have made a neat slot in your psyche. Some care has been taken over the recording of Defender , listen to the second track Still Saving Me , the drums ooze three dimensions. The song has that steady yet teetering-on-the-edge-of-funky feel. The big song that s already made its presence known in the world is Your Love Never Fails which opens this bountiful 16 track album. Chris does, from time to time, fall into the tradition of modern worship leaders: lazy right hand guitar playing, slightly slurred vocal, but for the main part he manages to stand out from the pack. In the wake of the Australian chart topping status of Kings Of Leon’s
When You See Yourself album, TEG Dainty has the Tennessee band of brothers and cousin back Down Under for their first visit in ten years.
“Kings of Leon’s Australian shows in 2011 were nothing short of phenomenal and this time around the band will also be riding high after celebrating yet another #1-charting album in this country,” said president/CEO Paul Dainty.
“We can’t wait to welcome Kings Of Leon back into Australian arenas.”
The tour ships into Qudos Bank Arena, Sydney (March 26), Brisbane Entertainment Centre (March 29), Sidney Myer Music Bowl, Melbourne (April 1), Adelaide Entertainment Centre (April 4) and RAC Arena, Perth (April 7).
