He said the then Ministry of Regional Reorganisation and Development did not have the mandate to create constituencies under the 1992 Constitution. He argued that the creation of constituencies was the responsibility of the Electoral Commission (EC) and the Local Government Ministry. Vetting Mr Botwe said that when he appeared before Parliament’s Appointments Committee. Prior to his appearance last Monday, a joint committee from Akpafu and Lolobi Traditional areas had petitioned the Appointments Committee to reject his appointment to head the Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development Ministry.

  The Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) will work collaboratively with agencies facilitating the implementation of government s flagship initiatives to actualise the policy objectives. Mr Daniel Kwaku Botwe, the Minister-designate for Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development, gave the assurance when he appeared before Parliament s Appointments Committee for vetting. He said the flagship programmes, such as the Planting for Food and Jobs, Planting for Export and Rural Development, and One District, One Factory were anchored on improving the local economies and was imperative for the MMDAs to support their implementation to achieve the policy objectives. Mr Botwe, also a Member of Parliament for Okere, said if given the nod, he would ensure balanced and equitable distribution of resources across the country to prevent rural-urban migration.

Rural development ministry offers help to identify idle assets or land parcels for monetisation SECTIONS Share Synopsis “The rural development ministry can play a vital role in identification of surplus government land, ascertaining the market value of land and transfer of ownership of land,” the ministry said in a statement. The rural development ministry, on Tuesday, said it can assist the government in identifying the idle assets or land parcels lying with ministries while fixing a base price for monetisation of such assets. This comes following a budget announcement by finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on monetising the surplus land with government ministries, departments and other public sector enterprises.
