Whenever someone comes into a new position, there is usually a learning curve. We don’t expect Monsignor Larry Kulick will have that with his new role.
He already knows the mechanics of the office. He has been the diocesan administrator since September when Bishop Edward Malesic became the bishop of Cleveland. He spent previous years as the diocese’s vicar general.
But he knows more than that. This is about more than just the work the important work of the office or the honor of wearing the bishop’s miter.

Pope Francis has appointed Msgr. Larry J. Kulick, diocesan administrator of the Diocese of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, to head the diocese.
WASHINGTON, D.C. Pope Francis has appointed Msgr. Larry J. Kulick, diocesan administrator of the Diocese of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, to head the diocese.
Kulick, 54, was elected administrator in September to oversee governance of the diocese after Bishop Edward C. Malesic was installed Sept. 14 to head the Diocese of Cleveland.
On Friday, the Diocese of Greensburg celebrated the announcement that one of its own was named the new bishop.
Bishop-elect the Rev. Larry J. Kulick was walking to his vehicle last week when he received a phone call from Washington, D.C. He said he wondered if the call had something to do with naming the dioceseâs new bishop. Its former head, Bishop Edward C. Malesic, was installed as bishop of the Diocese of Cleveland in September.
Since Malesic left, Kulick had been asking himself all kinds of questions about the eventual incoming bishop, but didnât know most of his questions would be answered he was told he was chosen by Pope Francis to take on the role.

Catholics in the Greensburg Diocese are celebrating an early Christmas gift from Rome: the appointment of one of their own, Msgr. Larry J. Kulick, as bishop-elect.
Pope Francis announced the appointment of Kulick, a Leechburg native, as the sixth bishop of the diocese early Friday.
The appointment of the 54-year-old priest, who has spent his entire career in the diocese, marks the first time parishioners in the Greensburg Diocese have had cause to celebrate the elevation of a local priest to the bishop’s office.

HARRISBURG â The chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee says that moving a bill to amend the Constitution to create a window of time for lawsuits by adult survivors of child abuse will be a top priority when lawmakers return to the Capitol next month.
The bill has already passed once, but because itâs a proposed constitutional amendment, it must pass unchanged a second time before it goes on the ballot for voters statewide.
State Sen. Lisa Baker, R-Luzerne, announced Tuesday that she plans to introduce legislation that will mirror House Bill 963, which passed both chambers of the General Assembly in 2019.
