The first of three planned “modular buildings” to help ease London’s housing crisis should be completed by next December, city officials say.
The timeline was given Wednesday, as the federal government reaffirmed its $7.5-million commitment to support rapid construction of new affordable units in London.

A plan to create 40 “resting spaces” for homeless Londoners gained unanimous support at a city council committeeon Tuesday, a $1.24-million investment that’s intended to help people and ease issues in the core, but could run into major budget hurdles next year.
Formerly known as crash beds, the resting spaces are geared to help high-needs people who can’t or won’t use emergency shelters, whether because of behaviour, drug use or other issues. Those spaces give people who don’t have homes an opportunity to eat, sleep, shower and get clean clothes.

Toys dominated the donations, including a soft-toy tiger, which seemed to have already developed an affinity among some of the staff as it finally departed the regional offices in Ahuriri yesterday.
