Appointments are no longer needed for Angelenos to get COVID-19 vaccinations at any site run by the city, Mayor Eric Garcetti announced Sunday.
“We stand at a critical juncture in our fight to end this pandemic, and our City will keep doing everything possible to knock down barriers to vaccine access and deliver doses directly to all Angelenos,” Garcetti said in a statement.
The move is intended to give people who don’t have the time or technological resources to navigate online booking platforms a chance to get the shot. Vaccinations are free.
It comes a week after the city stopped requiring appointments for some walk-up and mobile locations. Now, appointment-free options are also available at the city’s drive-through sites the Crenshaw Christian Center, Hansen Dam and Dodger Stadium which are open Monday through Saturday. People can still sign up ahead of time if they prefer.
Many sites in the city and county of Los Angeles are now offering opportunities for residents to get the COVID-19 vaccine without having to make an appointment.

Providers throughout Los Angeles County administered 144,000 fewer COVID-19 vaccine doses last week compared with the week prior the clearest evidence yet that the demand for doses has dropped significantly.
The trend has sparked concerns in some corners that it may take longer than expected for the nation’s most populous county to reach the level of widespread community inoculation experts believe is necessary to end the pandemic, if it ever does, and has officials rethinking their operations in hopes of getting more people to roll up their sleeves.
“At this point, the goal is for us to make it as easy as possible for people to come in and feel comfortable getting their vaccine,” county Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer said during a news briefing.
Ten city-run sites will now operate Monday through Saturday as part of a wider effort to expand vaccine access amid declining local demand for the doses.
However, we are hearing from readers that it s not working this way for everyone.
A spokesperson told us on Feb. 10 that someone from the Ralphs Pharmacy team should reach out to you with a second dose appointment as we get closer to the timeframe for when the second dose should be administered (usually around 4 weeks).
Ralphs guarantees second doses to anyone who got their first shot through the grocery store, according to a spokesperson.
