BISHKEK, May 2. /TASS/. More than 30,000 Kyrgyz citizens have been evacuated from the zone of the armed conflict on the border with Tajikistan, Deputy Minister of Health and Social Development Aliza Soltonbekova said on Sunday. A total of 33,388 people have been evacuated, Soltonbekova told a briefing in Bishkek, noting that 19,200 of them were children and teenagers.
Most of those evacuated are in dire need of food, medicines, clothes and essentials, the deputy minister said. She expressed gratitude to the country’s citizens for providing support for the evacuees. According to the latest data, more than 100 tonnes of humanitarian assistance have been collected for citizens of the affected areas.

Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan should avoid armed clashes between the countries in the future, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov said on Sunday addressing the nation regarding the conflict on the border with Tajikistan. Both sides should not allow continuation of armed clashes, he said, adding that the republics are neighbors forever. We cannot leave the land inherited from our ancestors and move to another place, the head of the state noted.

The control over highways has been strengthened
BISHKEK, May 2. /TASS/. The situation in Kyrgyz regions bordering Tajikistan is stable, Kyrgyzstan’s Interior Ministry reported on Sunday. No shootouts were recorded overnight, the situation is stable, the statement said. The ministry noted that the patrolling of populated localities bordering Tajikistan has been enhanced with checkpoints established in some of them. We continue awareness-building among local population, the control over highways has been strengthened, the statement stressed.
The conflict between the two republics erupted on April 28 near the Golovnoy water distribution point, which Tajikistan considers as its own territory, while Kyrgyzstan considers it disputed. Kyrgyzstan accused Tajikistan of using mortars, machine guns and Mi-24 military helicopters. On the evening of April 29, the sides agreed on a ceasefire and withdrawal of military units although separate flare-ups continued until May 1.
Bishkek, May 2 (Prensa Latina) Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan started to withdraw soldiers and military equipment from the armed conflict zone on the common border, the Border Guard Service of the Kyrgyz State Committee for National Security reported on Sunday.
