Mar 14, 2021 HUBBARD HONOR: Pattie Tate of Hubbard, a Hubbard Public Library volunteer, was the recent recipient of the Joann Fabric and Craft Store Handmade Heroes Award, which honors sewers and crafters who use their hands and hearts to serve the community by donating things for veterans, hospital patients, homeless, shelters and nursing homes. Individuals who receive the award have made a mask, blanket or other items to make a positive difference in the community. Tait was selected for her work with Mats of Love, which is a volunteer program started at the library where people make mats for homeless individuals using plastic bags. The Mats of Love project started at the library in 2018 with completed mats donated to the Youngstown Blue Coats for distribution for veterans and homeless individuals. To date, 250 mats have been donated to the YBC.

Admission is free with masks required. The show runs noon to 8 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 13. REMARKABLE WOMEN: The Mahoning Valley Historical Society will premiere “Remarkable Women of Trumbull County” in its monthly Bites and Bits of History online video presentation at noon on March 18. Meghan Reed, executive director of the Trumbull County Historical Society, will be the main presenter. Reed’s program explores the lives of several influential and noteworthy Trumbull County women. Their backstories, careers and impacts will be highlighted, as she dives into how they not only shaped the local community but forever changed the world around them.

(WMC) - An Oxford, Mississippi man and his two children lost their lives this week in a crash involving a garbage truck. Police responded to US 278 and F.D. Buddy East Parkway around 7:45 a.m. Thursday where the family’s Volkswagen Jetta collided with a Panola County garbage truck. The Jetta’s driver, 40-year-old John Matthew Ellington, died at the scene. Paramedics took both children to the hospital in Oxford where his daughter died shortly after arriving.
