BRIDGEPORT Former city police chief Armando Perez is now inmate 07860-509.
The 65-year-old Perez was sentenced last month by U.S. District Judge Kari Dooley to a year and a day in prison after he and the city’s former personnel director, David Dunn, pleaded guilty last October to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and making a false statement to the FBI.
On Monday, Perez surrendered to federal prison officials to begin his sentence and was transferred to the Gilmer Federal Correctional Institution in Glenville, W.Va.
His lawyer did not return calls and emails for comment.
Paul Spaniola is looking forward to a transition to being there for his family.
But thatâs not to say that heâs going to miss being the Mason County Prosecuting Attorney, a position heâs held for 18 years.
âThereâs a lot of different feelings,â he said Monday afternoon in his corner office on the third floor of the Mason County Courthouse. Iâve got other friends, prosecutors in other counties, who are pretty much (my) age, and many of them were running for one more term. Great for them. Iâm happy for you guys. But, itâs my time.
