Dr. ANNE C. LARKIN has been promoted to vice provost for educational affairs at University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, a newly created position including responsibility for creating an inclusive process to implement the educational goals of the school’s IMPACT 2025 Strategic Plan as well as oversight of crucial educational resources that support the school’s educational mission. Larkin was previously senior associate dean for educational affairs at UMass Medical School, and is vice chair and associate professor of surgery, specializing in breast and endocrine surgery.

Sun Viking Lodge marks 50 years in Daytona Beach Shores
DAYTONA BEACH SHORES For Gary and Barbara Brown, longtime owners of the Sun Viking Lodge, the hotel’s office is a home away from home.
Actually, in the early part of the hotel’s 50 years as a beachfront fixture, the office really was the couple’s home, where they simultaneously raised two children and handled the phone calls, front desk, laundry, leaky faucets, midnight emergencies and other innkeeper duties.
“This used to be my kitchen,” Barbara said, ushering a guest past desks where hotel staff members answer phones and type on computers. Around another corner, she points down a hall to a space that was once a bedroom for the Browns’ son Greg, now the hotel’s general manager.

Several Brookline residents were named to the honor roll for the first quarter of the 2020-21 school year at Boston College High School in Boston. Ambrose Choyce, Juan Aldama-de los Pinos, Nicholas Bezzerides, Stefan Videnovic and Jingli Zhou earned high honors.
BC High successfully reopened for in-person learning in September using a hybrid model, with two cohorts of students coming onto campus on alternating weeks. This model provided all BC High students with completely synchronous learning opportunities throughout the fall, regardless of whether the student was at school or at home. The school also implemented extensive safety protocols to help keep students, faculty, staff and others healthy during the pandemic, and plans to continue offering in-person instruction in January.
