ACC Mayor & Commission moves last call to 2 a m

The Athens-Clarke County Mayor & Commission voted to move the last call for Athens bars from 11:30 p.m. to 2 a.m., beginning May 20, in a Tuesday special called voting session. In an initial effort to curb the spread of COVID-19, ACC government shifted the last call, which announces the remaining 45 minutes patrons have to finish their beverages before the establishment closes, to 9 p.m. in the summer of 2020. This change also shortened last call from 45 to 30 minutes. After a lawsuit filed against the county by owners of On the Rocks, Moonshine, Buddha Bar, Centro and Cloud, the last call time was moved forward to 10 p.m. By the time the lawsuit was settled in August 2020, last call was 11:30 p.m., where it has remained until this vote.

Indiana FD s NaloxBox Offers Free Help for Opioid Overdoses

The Evening News and the Tribune, Jeffersonville, Ind. On Friday, the Sellersburg (Ind.) Volunteer Fire Department installed what is believed to be the first NaloxBox in Clark County, a publicly accessible box that contains naloxone kits, an intranasal medication that can reverse an opioid overdose. As of Monday, several of the kits had been taken from the box outside the station at 426 E. Utica Street, and Karen Tweedy, deputy chief over personnel, said she hopes those kits can help save a person s life. Hopefully someone who thought they may need them maybe took what they thought they needed, she said.

News and Tribune file Daniel.Suddeath@newsandtribune.com SOUTHERN INDIANA When Clark County Health Officer Dr. Eric Yazel issued an order in November to limit restaurant capacity to 75%, he alerted local officials before announcing the mandate, which went beyond state regulations at the time. It’s the only point to date when Yazel approved an order that went beyond state guidance, and he said it was in response to the closure of restaurants just across the Ohio River in Louisville. The reduced capacity was an attempt at keeping Clark County residents safe, as Indiana’s more lax regulations were expected to bring Kentucky customers to Southern Indiana for dining.
