Glasgow City Council bosses hit out at damaged George Square memorial benches

Some benches were vandalised with stickers from Rangers fans group Union Bears and others saying “Rangers FC”.  A council spokesman called the act “deplorable.” ➡️ George Square Memorial Benches We’ve had cleansing and parks teams in George Square since Sunday night, clearing debris and assessing the damage to furniture and plants. We believe we have been able to recover any memorial plaques from smashed benches and are now starting the job of contacting families, where we are able. 

Man arrested after disturbance in Bain Street

Four police vans and five police cars were called to a property in Bain Street.  The man, 37, was arrested in connection. The road was cordoned off to traffic at its junction with Gallowgate.  Glasgow City Council urged residents to follow police diversions, but the road has since reopened. Bain St is closed to traffic at Gallowgate junction due to an ongoing police incident. Gallowgate and Parkhead flood: Water supplies resume but one road remains closed

A BURST main, that meant 29,000 homes in Glasgow s East End were left without water, has been fixed. Scottish Water engineers successfully isolated a damaged section of trunk main last night and water supplies have now resumed.  But, Gallowgate will remain closed in both directions between Bellgrove Street and Melbourne Street for a full repair. Meanwhile, Abercromby Street, London Road and Bellgrove Street are open.  Abercromby St, London Rd and Bellgrove St are now fully open. Scottish Water has isolated the burst & residential water supplies are coming back on. But Gallowgate remains closed in both directions between Bellgrove St and Melbourne St as a full repair could take a few days.

Glasgow weather: Snow and ice warning still in place with more disruption expected

Yesterday, Glasgow City Council closed recycling centres due to the bad weather, but the local authority has announced that the centres will be open as normal today.  Update (Wed 10 Feb) All Household Waste Recycling Centres are open as normal today.
