Prosecutor s Office issues statement on fatal hit/run investigation | WTVB | 1590 AM · 95 5 FM

COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Prosecutor Zach Stempien issued a statement Monday afternoon on the ongoing investigation into the April 5 hit and run crash in Sherwood Township which injured three youngsters. One of the youngsters, 13-year-old Landen Risner, died from his injuries on Sunday morning at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. Stempien said he has been in contact with the Michigan State Police since the day of the crash and has been given regular updates. He says at this point in time, the investigation is ongoing and, “Once the investigation is completed and a formal request for charges is received by the Branch County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, the case will be reviewed for possible criminal prosecution.”

Photo of Janey courtesy of Animal Aid of Branch County COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A man who entered guilty pleas to two charges after he shot his pet German Shepard in the head last June was sentenced on Monday in Branch County Circuit Court. 21-year-old Alex James Carr was ordered to serve three months in jail and was placed on probation for 18 months after he entered guilty pleas to Attempted Torturing, Mutilating, or Killing an Animal as well as to a charge of animal cruelty. During his probation, Carr must complete a psychological evaluation, undergo anger management and pay over $4,000 in restitution to Animal Aid of Branch County for taking care of “Janey” after she was shot.
