Aurora resident Mumba Kabemba, a student at Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove, has received a $1,500 scholarship from the Aurora Area Retired Teachers Association.
Dick Schindel of Aurora, association president and former East Aurora School District 131 educator, made the announcement.
Kabemba, a 2019 West Aurora High School graduate, is a second-year business administration major at the community college. Her career goal is to become a business adviser to women in refugee camps.
Few careers have been as upended by the pandemic as those who work in education, as teachers keep their focus on students so they stay focused on learning.
