Villagers are urging Indonesia’s leader to visit the restive Poso region in Central Sulawesi province as a sign of his commitment to resolving security problems there after pro-Islamic State militants killed four farmers in the latest violence there last week.
More than a dozen people representing residents of Lore Bersaudara, a district of Poso regency, submitted an open letter to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Monday through the local legislative council.
Their letter expressed frustration at the authorities’ failure to root out the Eastern Indonesia Mujahideen (MIT), a pro-Islamic State militant group which government officials have blamed for two large deadly attacks in a six-month span, but which is said to number less than a dozen fighters.

Terrorists from the East Indonesia Mujahideen have killed four Christian farmers including one Catholic in Indonesia s Poso district in Central Sulawesi province.
They were killed when they were working in a coffee plantation in Kalimago village at 8.25am on May 11.
The four victims were only identified as MS, S, P and L. Their funerals were taking place on May 12.

Suspected pro-Islamic State Indonesian militants killed four farmers in Central Sulawesi province on Tuesday, police said, in the first presumed attack by members of the Eastern Indonesia Mujahideen (MIT) group targeting civilians in more than five months.
The body of one of the victims of Tuesday’s attack in Kalemago, a village in Poso regency, was found decapitated, said Senior Commissioner Didik Supranoto, a spokesman for Central Sulawesi police force.
“Currently the four bodies of the victims with the initials P.D., N.U., L.L., and P.P. have been taken to their home in Kalemago Village,” Didik told BenarNews in Palu, the provincial capital.
