Woman dead, 3 missing after flooding in Colorado burn area

RUSTIC, Colo. (AP) A woman was found dead and three other people were missing after rain triggered flooding and mudslides in an area of northern Colorado burned by a large wildfire last year, authorities said Wednesday.
The woman s body was found near the small community of Rustic, about 100 miles (161 kilometers) northwest of Denver, after a mudslide sent a large amount of debris into a scenic, winding canyon Tuesday evening, the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office said.
At least five houses were destroyed, and a private bridge was damaged in the flooding, sheriff’s Capt. Joe Shellhammer told the Coloradoan newspaper in Fort Collins.

GRAND COUNTY, Colo. Multiple mudslides along the East Troublesome Fire burn scar trapped motorists Wednesday afternoon.
There are three sections where three slides occurred, each about 100 feet wide – there were also some smaller slides that overflowed the banks, according to Grand County Sheriff s Office (GCSO) Sheriff Brett Schroetlin. When it starts to rain up there, debris flow. Just reminds people this area is kind of unstable and we ask them not to stop along that route, head on a swivel, watch both sides of road, said sheriff Schroetlin.

GRAND COUNTY, Colo. â Multiple mudslides shut down Colorado Highway 125 and trapped vehicles between slides Wednesday as heavy rain fell over the East Troublesome Fire burn scar in Grand County.
The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for the western part of the burn scar in Grand County until 9:15 p.m., with the greatest impacts expected on CO-125 between Granby and the Jackson County border.
A flash flood warning had been issued for the burn area in Northeastern Grand County and Southwestern Larimer County, which expired at 6:15 p.m.
