Gretchen Whitmer said. “Every Michigander deserves to drive on our roads safely, without blowing a tire or cracking a windshield, and this partnership with GM will help us reach that goal while creating good jobs for Michigan workers.”

Mourners honor Benny Napoleon for the second day at visitation

Detroit  Mourners continued saying goodbye Tuesday to Benny Napoleon, who headed two of Michigan s largest law enforcement agencies in a career that spanned more than 40 years. The former Wayne County sheriff and Detroit police chief died Dec. 17 at Henry Ford Hospital about three weeks after he was placed on a respirator while fighting COVID-19. Visitation is from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday in Greater Grace Temple on Seven Mile, following Monday s visitation in the Swanson Funeral Home on East Grand Boulevard in Detroit. As was the case Monday, there were dozens of mourners waiting in line outside the church Tuesday before the doors opened.

A public viewing will be held Monday at the Swanson Funeral Home on East Grand Boulevard in Detroit from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Services will be held Tuesday at the Greater Grace Temple on Seven Mile Road from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The family will have its own private service. A live stream of the event will be available on the Swanson Funeral Home site.

Visitors took turns paying their respects to Napoleon. He has been the Wayne County Sheriff since 2009. He had worked in law enforcement since he was in his 20s. Mourners can pay their respects this week to Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon, who died  Dec. 17 after a weeks-long battle with COVID-19. A public visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Swanson Funeral Home on East Grand Boulevard in Detroit.  Another public viewing will take place at Greater Grace Temple on  7 Mile Road from 10 a.m to 6 p.m. Tuesday. Napoleon was with family when he died at Henry Ford Hospital earlier this month, his daughter Tiffani Jackson said. He was 65.  Napoleon was one of our city’s greatest public servants, Mayor Mike Duggan said in a statement.
