While there are specific policies to listen for in Governor Andrew Cuomoâs State of the State address today, thereâs really only one overriding issue to pay attention to: what the governor says about his expectations regarding relief money from the federal government.
All other issues, from education to healthcare to energy will be informed by that single expectation of cash; without it, the governorâs agenda will be gloomy.
Of course, his expectations could also be too optimistic, which is much more likely.

WASHINGTON - A West Virginia lawmaker who filmed himself and supporters of President Donald Trumpstorming into the U.S. Capitol is facing bipartisan calls for his resignation as federal prosecutors step up their pursuit of violent perpetrators.
State Del. Derrick Evans was among lawmakers from at least seven states who traveled to Washington, D.C., for demonstrations rooted in the baseless conspiracy theory that Democrat Joe Biden stole the presidential election. Wearing a helmet, Evans ultimately joined a screaming mob as it pushed its way into the Capitol building, and livestreamed himself joyfully strolling inside.
Former president George W. Bush on Wednesday denounced some of his fellow Republicans for fuelling the insurrection . This is how election results are disputed in a banana republic - not our democratic republic, he said.
Mike Pompeo, a Trump loyalist, tweeted urging the extremists be taken to task. Let us swiftly bring justice to the criminals who engaged in this rioting, he tweeted.
Day of reckoning began with rally
The remarkable developments in the nation’s capital were not inevitable when the sun rose on Wednesday morning, though there was a sense of foreboding around the city.
Thousands of the president’s faithful had gathered the night before, arriving after Mr Trump demanded support for his ongoing claim that he, not Mr Biden, was the real election victor. It was the day when Congress was due to perform its largely ceremonial duty of signing off the results ahead of the inauguration on Jan 20, when Mr Biden becomes president.
