Ex-janitor sues Greenfield School District for violating FMLA rights

A former janitor for the Greenfield School District is suing the district, saying administrators violated his rights when he was fired after he developed a serious health condition that prevented him from doing his job while on medical leave to get checked for COVID-19. Duane Kaufmann is accusing the district of interfering with his rights under the Family Medical Leave Act and retaliating against him for trying to exercise those rights by terminating his employment. Alan Olson, Kelsey Kerr and Nicholas Yurk on April 15 filed the complaint on behalf of Kaufmann in the U.S. Eastern District Court of Wisconsin.

Ned Lamont said his administration is proud of the work they have done on streamlining the functions of human resources in state government in order to make them more efficient.  Improvements the state has made so far include the elimination of backlogs, the launch of LinkedIn Learning, and the digitization of over a million pages of paper, officials said in a statement. The governor said centralizing the state’s human resources team during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic allowed state agencies to work together more quickly.
